Today, most faith communities are supportive of organ and tissue donation, considering it an act of charity and love. As we head into the season of thanks and gratitude, the National Donor Sabbath provides an opportunity for faith communities to share their views and join in the ongoing conversation around donation.
What, exactly, is the National Donor Sabbath? “During National Donor Sabbath, faith leaders, donor families, transplant recipients, and donation and transplantation professionals participate in services and programs to increase awareness of the need for the lifesaving and enhancing gifts passed to others through transplantation and encourage people to sign up in their state registry” (organdonor.gov).
On November 10th-12th, 2017 CDT will take part in recognizing the National Donor Sabbath, but it truly is an observation that can be recognized throughout the month of November.
Any group that is interested can participate. CDT is happy to provide materials, speakers and whatever else may be needed. If you are interested in having your faith-based organization participate in a National Donor Sabbath event, please reach out to us! To learn more, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
