Donate Life Capital Region

CDT is proud to announce it is partnering with Albany Medical Center, Buzz 105.7/WGNA, and the Albany County Department of Health to promote Donate Life Capital Region, a community effort aimed at enrolling 2,000 New Yorkers in the New York State Donate Life Registry.  The key component to the campaign is a website, www.donatelifecapitalregion.com, where people can electronically join the state donor registry.

The Donate Life Capital Region campaign was conceived as a celebration of the 2,000 kidney transplant performed by Albany Medical Center this year.  The transplant team decided to honor this milestone by highlighting the urgent need for more people to make the decision to be an organ and tissue donor.   Over 100,000 patients are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant in the United States and an average of 17 people dies every day due to a shortage of transplantable organs.  New Yorkers are encouraged to join the NYS Donate Life Registry and share their decision with their family members.

The Center For Donation & Transplant is a non-profit organ procurement organization (OPO) dedicated to increasing organ and tissue donation. CDT coordinates the retrieval of donor organs and tissue at 47 hospitals throughout northeastern New York state and western Vermont.

CDT Sponsors Rider on Donate Life Float in 2009 Rose Parade®

Vermont resident and donor father James (Jim) Carter will ride the 2009 Donate Life Float in honor of all of CDT’s donor families.  Carter and his family made the decision to donate his daughter Andrea’s organs and tissues after her untimely passing, saving the lives of four people.  Since that tragedy, Carter, a retired history teacher, has dedicated himself to educating the community about organ and tissue donation.  He has given over 1,100 presentations to over 90 schools, clubs, and other organizations in Vermont.  This is the third year CDT has sponsored a float rider for the Donate Life Float.  For more information, visit www.donatelifefloat.org
